Baltimore, MD (May 14, 2009) – Home-style cooking arrives in downtown Baltimore when Red Springs Café opens grandly on Tuesday, May 19.
 
 
Located at 353 North Calvert Street , The Red Springs Café will serve as the Downtown area’s only restaurant specializing in Southern-style cuisine. With a seating capacity of 35, the quaint restaurant features a quick-casual Carolina cuisine in a dining environment that’s attractive both to patrons who want a meal on the go or those looking for a seated feast.

 “I wanted to bring Baltimore some of the cooking I remembered as a kid growing up in North Carolina,” says Cheryl Townsend, Red Springs Chef and Owner. “We’re going to showcase the kind of good food my grandmother would make and that’s why I named the restaurant after my hometown of Red Springs, North Carolina.”
 
Featuring such Southern-style staples as candied yams, fried chicken and potato salad peppered with occasional Caribbean-style specialties including Cajun Catfish and fried plantains, the soulful menu selections will truly offer something special for everyone.  With doors opening on weekdays as early as 6am, Red Springs will offer a breakfast menu including platters with side items such as fried apples and grits; sandwiches with meats, egg and cheese (yes with turkey sausage too); and continental items including fruit bowls, yogurt parfaits and bagels.
 
Best known as the driving force behind Cheryl’s Homestyle Cuisine, a popular Silver Spring, MD catering company, Red Springs is the culmination of a lifelong dream.  “For years, my customers have been asking me to open my own restaurant, and I just felt Baltimore was a great place to do it,” she says.
 
Red Springs Café will operate Monday through Friday from 6 am until 6 pm, with dinner hours on Wednesday and Friday until 9 pm. The restaurant is also available for catering and private events. For more information please visit www.redspringscafe.com.
